Hands-on workshops

Six sessions to learn by making

Workshops take place on 2 and 3 July at ETSIADI. They require pre-registration, have limited capacity and each participant should review the requirements before attending.

The workshop starts from the basic elements of a microcontroller board and moves towards programming small automatic responses. It is designed for beginners without prior electronics or programming experience.

Requirements

Own laptopArduino IDE installedBasic computer fluency

What you will work on

  • Set up the Arduino IDE
  • Read simple buttons and sensors
  • Control LEDs, buzzers, servos or small motors
  • Build a basic automatic system

The session covers loading medical data, using manual and semi-automatic tools, reviewing the model and exporting geometry for planning, teaching or digital fabrication.

Requirements

Own laptop3D Slicer installedInterest in biomedical design or anatomical fabrication

What you will work on

  • Load and review CT data
  • Use Segment Editor effects
  • Combine manual and semi-automatic segmentation
  • Export models for printing or fabrication

The workshop connects Amazonian ancestral knowledge with digital fabrication to create innovative and sustainable materials. Participants will explore natural fibres, textile techniques and the creation of a composite biomaterial.

Requirements

Main materials providedOptional: participants may bring local fibresInterest in sustainability and material experimentation

What you will work on

  • Recognise Amazonian biomaterials and their uses
  • Handle fibres and natural latex
  • Assemble and use a digitally fabricated teaching loom
  • Create a textile piece and a biomaterial prototype

A practical introduction to documenting, verifying and fabricating electronic circuits with KiCad. The session covers the flow from schematic design to the files needed to produce a board.

Requirements

Own laptopKiCad 10 installedInterest in electronic design

What you will work on

  • Create a project and a basic schematic
  • Assign footprints and run electrical checks
  • Route a PCB with layers, vias and copper zones
  • Prepare manufacturing documentation

The session introduces robotic system definition, TCP tools, target generation and trajectory simulation. Advanced experience is not required, but a basic understanding of parametric algorithms in Grasshopper is recommended.

Requirements

Rhinoceros 8 with active licence or trialRobots plugin installedVisose Robots extension installed

What you will work on

  • Define a robotic system in Rhino and Grasshopper
  • Configure a TCP tool
  • Turn geometry into targets and trajectories
  • Simulate, detect collisions and explore variations

Aimed at creatives, engineers and maker profiles, the workshop covers parametric modelling and file preparation for FabLab environments, 3D printing and laser cutting.

Requirements

Own laptopAutodesk Fusion installedInterest in rapid prototyping

What you will work on

  • Navigate the interface and manage projects
  • Create 2D sketches with constraints and dimensions
  • Model solids with extrusion and revolution
  • Export to STL, 3MF or DXF for fabrication

Visits

Visits to manufacturing spaces

Three visits to see how experiences, prototypes and objects are made in professional settings around Valencia: advanced retail, shared industrial workshop and design-factory studio.

01

Visit to Acierta Retail

Acierta is an international design and production house specialising in advanced retail, brand spaces and physical experiences. From Valencia, it connects creativity, technical development, production, logistics and installation to turn demanding brand concepts into precisely built environments.

02

Visit to Generador Coworking

Generador Coworking works as a shared industrial workshop for projects that need to prototype, fabricate and test with real tools. Its model combines workspace, machinery and maker community so hardware, design and fabrication ideas can move from sketch to physical object.

03

Visit to Archicercle

Archicercle brings creative studio and factory together: it designs products, identities and spaces, then materialises them through laser cutting, CNC, 3D printing and manual processes. The visit shows how design judgement meets real materials, machines and finishes.

Exhibition opening

CREFAD 2026 Exhibition: dialogues between matter and code

The exhibition brings together projects developed through digital fabrication and opens a transversal journey through architecture, design, engineering, health and education.

The display keeps its focus on the passage from bit to atom: prototypes, objects, processes, numerical control, 3D printing and new ways of thinking about matter.
